About T.A.E.I.L.
What is T.A.E.I.L.?
T.A.E.I.L. stands for The Afterlife Eternal: Immortal Legacy. It is pronounced “tale.”
It is a pre-registration Canadian not-for-profit building a global community around death, grief, remembrance, preparation, celebration, and mutual care.
What does the name mean?
It also spells the name of founder Jesse H. C. Lee’s father, Tae Il, whose death is one of the deepest reasons this enterprise exists.
Who is T.A.E.I.L. for?
- People who are grieving and want somewhere to remember, reflect, and stay connected
- People approaching the end of life or living with isolation who want trusted community and practical preparation
- Parents, partners, families, and friends who want to leave love, guidance, and memories behind intentionally
- People who believe organisations should be run in ways that protect people rather than extract from them
Is T.A.E.I.L. live yet?
Not yet. T.A.E.I.L. is in its pre-incorporation, pre-launch build phase. It intends to incorporate as a Canadian federal non-profit before any crowdfunding campaign launches or contributions are accepted.
What will people be able to do on T.A.E.I.L.?
The initial build is centred on Sanctuary/Memorial, Message from the Afterlife, Cherished Moments, The Passing Notification Network, and When the Time Comes. The wider vision includes Circle of Care, the Beliefs & Traditions Library, Member Stories, The Cleanse, and The Members’ Voice.
Legal & Structure
Is T.A.E.I.L. a charity?
Not currently, and not by accident. T.A.E.I.L. intends to incorporate as a Canadian federal non-profit under the CNCA, without CRA registered-charity status. It will not describe contributions as tax-deductible unless and until that status is lawfully available and explicitly confirmed.
Why isn’t T.A.E.I.L. registering as a charity?
T.A.E.I.L. wants to show that an organisation can be built to genuinely serve people and society without depending on registered-charity status to prove it. Membership is a direct exchange: you become a member of the community and its future platform, rather than making a tax-motivated donation. This does not change T.A.E.I.L.’s not-for-profit legal structure: there are still no shareholders, no equity investors, no dividends, and no conventional exit.
Why is Canada the legal home?
The confirmed Phase 1 legal home is Canada. This reflects Founder/CEO Jesse H. C. Lee’s Canadian citizenship, the origin story of Tae Il’s death in Canada, and practical incorporation and banking considerations for an internationally based founding team. Executive Co-Founder Bruno Roda is based in China and holds Portuguese citizenship.
Is T.A.E.I.L. for-profit?
No. T.A.E.I.L. is being designed as a mission-protected not-for-profit: no shareholders, equity investors, dividends, or conventional startup-style exit.
Membership & Access
How much will membership cost once T.A.E.I.L. is live?
T.A.E.I.L.’s standard membership is planned to begin at CAD $12 a year, equivalent to CAD $1 a month. Every membership tier is intended to have one flat price; there will be no “starting at” pricing anywhere in the catalogue, including the highest tier. T.A.E.I.L. also intends to publish its estimated real cost per member openly.
Members who voluntarily choose a higher membership tier are not buying extra control over the organisation. Higher tiers help cover the real cost of running the platform for members who choose the floor tier. The current financial model treats the CAD $12/year floor as an access commitment, not yet a fully self-sustaining average payment at every scale.
How does T.A.E.I.L. decide what to pay its people?
We believe underpaying the people responsible for grief, safety, and vulnerable members is its own kind of harm, so we aim to pay fairly, not minimally, and to publish what that means.
During the three-month pre-launch build, the founding leadership team is planned to receive a reduced, pro-rated rate well below what follows once the platform is funded and operating. Once running, pay for roles carrying the greatest responsibility is planned to sit between typical not-for-profit pay and typical technology-sector pay, leaning closer to the technology-sector end for roles carrying the most safety, technical, and financial responsibility. Full role-by-role figures will be published only when campaign materials are final. No one’s pay changes based on how much any individual member contributes.
Will donors or higher membership tiers get governance power?
No. Founding recognition is welcome. Constitutional capture is not.
Will membership tiers and prices be public soon?
Membership tiers are under review. Their legal form, campaign compatibility, prices, benefits, tax language, refund treatment, and other campaign mechanics will be published only after platform confirmation and Canadian legal review. They are not yet a live offer.
What is a Founding Member?
A Founding Member is planned to be someone who joins a membership tier during the campaign phase, before official public launch. Founding Members are intended to permanently keep a Founding Member recognition badge next to their name, in addition to their regular tier badge, even if they later change tier. This is recognition only; it does not carry governance power, equity, or trustee authority. See the Founding Membership page for detail.
Funding & Campaign Status
What will the first funding be used for?
The proposed minimum funding plan is intended to support:
- Safeguarding first
- Canadian federal non-profit incorporation and governance setup
- Platform MVP build and launch
- Core leadership and Technical Lead / Head of Engineering delivery
- One year of essential operating costs
The proposed stretch plan is intended to add a CFO; three Feature Owners; Community Care & Trust Lead; Knowledge & Editorial Lead; and Member Support Specialist.
Is there a campaign target?
For internal planning, T.A.E.I.L. is working with a proposed CAD $520,000 gross minimum and CAD $1,400,000 gross stretch target. These are planning references, not fixed commitments or a live fundraising offer. They remain subject to final budget validation, platform confirmation, payment-processor verification, and Canadian legal review.
How can someone support T.A.E.I.L. right now?
You can follow the build, offer relevant professional expertise, express interest in governance or partnerships, and return for confirmed campaign information once platform confirmation and Canadian legal review are complete.
Safeguarding & Support
What does safeguarding-first mean?
T.A.E.I.L. will not open to members until safeguarding foundations are in place: independent safeguarding input, a written and reviewed policy, moderation and escalation processes, and protections for vulnerable users and minors.
Is T.A.E.I.L. a crisis hotline or therapy service?
No. T.A.E.I.L. is not a crisis hotline, emergency service, or clinical care provider. A.N.G.E.L. stands for Afterlife Navigation, Grief Empowerment & Legacy. It is the name behind guidance and support tools being planned for members. A.N.G.E.L. is designed as a support aid, not a destination: it is intended to actively encourage members toward genuine human connection through the T.A.E.I.L. community, not replace it. A.N.G.E.L. is not a legal guardian, therapist, clinical service, crisis line, or emergency monitor.
Our Journey
When will T.A.E.I.L. launch?
There is not yet a fixed public launch date. Timing depends on incorporation, funding, legal and platform confirmation, safeguarding readiness, recruitment, and the practical build process.
What makes T.A.E.I.L. different from other platforms?
It combines pre-death and post-death use, practical and emotional support, remembrance and celebration, community and preparation, a mission-protected not-for-profit structure, and an accessible membership model.
